Canicross is the sport of cross-country running with your dog.
We welcome both new and seasonsed canicross runners to our race, and are excited for you to experience what the trails at Stockton State Park have to offer. We do recommend wearing trail shoes for this event.
Below you will find some information about how the race will work and what the rules will be. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any questions. If you are new to canicross, or if this is your first race, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are happy to help as you become involved in the sport!
Race Distance: 5.6k
Basic Rules: Runner and dog must be attached at all times during the race. We highly recommend that participants use a waist-belt, canicross line and harness. Running with dogs on a leash (hand held) is permitted provided that the dog is wearing a comfortable harness, and the point of attachment is on the harness itself and not pulling from the dog’s collar. Limit of one dog per runner, we do not offer a multi-dog race category. *Retractable leashes are NOT permitted.
Please be mindful of other runners and their dogs.
Weather: There is the potential for it to be very warm. Runners must ensure their dog is trained properly for this distance. Please remember to hydrate your dog before and after the run. Please keep the interest of your dog as your top priority. Your dog will follow you to the end of the earth, so please be mindful of their abilities, the weather, and other factors that may play a role in their performance on race day. Water and a cooling station will be available for dogs post-race.
